If you mention the history of Oreo cookies, someone will inevitably yell "Hydrox!" And that's kind of sad, really. Not just sad for Hydrox, but because there's more to the story. The competition between Hydrox and Oreo cookies involved some basics of marketing, like persistence, cutthroat tactics, and the crucial importance of a product name. We know what Hydrox means, but Oreo is open to many interpretations. Still, that battle is only half the story of Oreo cookies. Their innovative advertising is admirable, although we know the underlying purpose is just to remind everyone that Oreos still exist and maybe you should pick some up when you're at the store.
