Metallica Halloween Light Show

Tom BetGeorge has unveiled his Halloween light show for 2020. It's set to the song "Enter Sandman" from Metallica. This is for his own home; he also does light shows for hire through his company Magical Light Shows. His personal show is a fundraiser for McHenry House, his local homeless shelter. Very cool, but I'm glad I'm not his neighbour!

Originally this was just a Christmas phenomenon, but now we've got people going over the top with these for Halloween now. I predict that within another two years we're going to have people doing something like this to "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" for Easter.

I've also seen videos of some of these productions (ostensibly for Christmas) set to such non-Christmas music as the "Star Wars" soundtrack or songs from Slayer or AC/DC, complete with more strobing lights and pulsing lasers than even Pink Floyd and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (combined) took with them on tour.

I realize that a man's home is his castle and what he does on his own property (within reason) is his own business, but I still wonder at what point will something like this cross the line from being a holiday celebration/decoration to being a full-blown nuisance to the neighborhood?

I think the "nuisance to the neighborhood" line was crossed long ago. The only way to get the neighbors on board is to make it a charity fundraiser. Every year, the news has stories of people's light shows getting them sued or arrested or the subject of new laws in different places. As for Easter, I don't think so. By then, we have daylight and flowers and don't need lights so much. But Thanksgiving or Valentine lights might be a thing someday.
