He could have skipped to just "Hi." But it makes you think. There are so many people I know through the internet that are more real and familiar to me than people I see in real life, because I've talked to them about things that matter. I wouldn't recognize them on the street, but I know what kind of people they are. This comic is from Randall Munroe at xkcd.
