Urban Geography: Why We Live Where We Do

Cities are all cities, but they differ greatly in everything else. You know European cities are older, but you probably don’t know how much that affects everything else about them. One big difference is how dense they are. Modern technology, particularly in transportation, affected how cities grew. Wendover Productions tells us all kinds of interesting things about cities that you never thought about before. (via reddit

A square mile is equal to ....14 football fields, or 22 McDonalds carparks, or 4 aircraft carriers, or the coverage of 2 5G masts.

Or, if you live outside the USA, a square mile is very nearly equal to 2.6 square kilometres.

Kilometres, not kilometers.

Meters are machines that measure things, like a speedoMETER, or an electric METER, while metres are units of distance.

Loved your cars from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, abhor what you do to our language.

I have live in cities on occasion. They are nice and have all the shops but just not for me. Visiting, I can last about 3 days and it is time to go.
