It's true. "He didn't get that nose playing ping pong." Different people get their nose in different ways. I got mine when Shelley Reader cracked a foot-long wood-core blackboard eraser across the bridge of it in sixth grade. I was told at least four incompatible stories about how my grandfather got his one all white eye, and I still have his pair of pliers, his silver-plated nutcracker, the policeman's nightstick he took away from a policeman in 1926, and his red Knights of Columbus club sweater that he wore every Sunday of his adult life. Women can be Knights of Columbus now, too, but they're still not allowed to smoke cigars in church.
