Commenter William Rocket constantly complains about the way Americans use English. We mostly ignore him, because we all know British English and American English are just different, and that's okay. Laurence Brown of Lost in the Pond has spent years humorously explaining the differences between the two cultures. Over those years he's become more and more American (he's a US citizen now) while keeping his British accent. We can see that in how he defends what are known as "Americanisms." Well, they are known as Americanisms outside of America. I had no idea these words and phrases were unique to the US.
With some research, Brown has determined that Americanisms from a BBC complaint list either originated in Britain or are perfectly understandable in context or are just plain correct. I agree with him that "normalcy" is not a word, but I'm not inclined to argue about it. This video has a skippable ad from 4:24 to 5:57.
