The "Ultimate Gaslighting" essay is brilliant, maybe because it mirrors my fears of opportunities lost once we get to the other side of the pandemic. I find myself today watching commercials that seem so irrelevant or tone-deaf that I am somewhat amazed at how easy it has been to be blinded by advertisers' manipulations - and I considered myself to be relatively immune to them.

I think that there may be a couple of ways our society may be divided post-pandemic. I agree with today's Washington Post op-ed that there will be some who will be relatively stable and those who will forever be blown off their emotional axis.

But like the Forge essayist, I think another divide will be more profound: I think there will be some who will embrace the current "new normal" and maintain much of it, and there will be others who will rush to reclaim what used to be or maybe even a more intense version of the "old normal" - to deny what has happened - whether for political, financial, or emotional gains. This "old normal" vs. "new normal" divide may be more polarizing than our current political environment.

Thanks for the link! I would never have come across this essay otherwise.
