Unboxing Flamingos

The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro had to relocate their flock of 15 Chilean flamingos to make way for a demolition and construction project. They were shipped to the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina. In cardboard boxes. So you can consider the above an "unboxing video."

This is no aberration, but the optimum method for shipping flamingos. They are big birds that only weigh about four pounds each. Cardboard is safer for their delicate wings than a crate or a metal cage would be, and they had plenty of airflow. The birds were given a health check as they were unpacked, and appear to be settling in just fine in their new home. (via Fark)

Native Americans Try On "Indian" Halloween Costumes

Dressing up as an entire group of people for Halloween comes dangerously close to mocking them. That goes double when the costume accoutrements have cultural and/or religious meaning. Any time you have to wonder if your Halloween costume is offensive, it most likely is. You can always ask someone ahead of time. (via Buzzfeed)

Bella's Purr is the World's Loudest

Nicole Spink was always impressed by how loudly her cat Bella purred. The 14-year-old tabby cat shows her contentment by emitting a loud, growling motor purr that forces her family to turn the TV up do they can hear it! She purred at 54.59 decibels, enough to achieve the world record for loudest purr by a domestic cat (living). That may sound like a strange title, since non-living cats do not purr. But it means that she is the loudest of all currently-living cats. You can read Bella's story at the Guinness World Records site. (via Born in Space)

Rob It To Get It

The athletic store Distance in Paris has a strange promotion in the run-up to the Olympics next summer. In the Rob It To Get It campaign, they say go ahead and shoplift from them- you can keep the merchandise if you can outrun the store's security guard. The twist is that the security guard is French Olympic sprinter Méba-Mickaël Zézé. In this compilation video, he caught 74 would-be thieves, while two people got away.

The stunt makes Zézé look really good. But what does it say about theft? If it wasn't completely staged, this had to be a low-key, limited time offer. There doesn't seem to be any consequences for attempted theft, and probably was pretty hard on Zézé while it lasted. Also, any American will unlock the secret to this stunt in about ten seconds. All you need is more than one thief making a break for it at the same time, running in different directions. (via Digg)

I managed to create a template at Piñata Farms, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to upload a picture. Maybe you have to download the app to do that, but I don't download apps. So I just pasted an image onto the template. Maybe you will have better luck!

The King of Wacky Cars

Sudhakar Kanyaboyina is a car enthusiast in Hyderabad, India, who builds art cars. He owns Sudha Cars Museum, where you can find a wide selection of wacky cars sculpted to look like everyday objects ranging from a hamburger to a Christmas tree. Each one is designed and built from scratch, and each offers a challenge to make it work, and make it drivable.

With his daughter Stavya, he dreams up new and challenging ways to get around in a vehicle that doesn't look like a car and will draw attention and laughs. Strangely, the one wacky construction that does look like a car is not a car at all, but his desk. While the museum is not Sudhakar's full time job, and he doesn't like to sell them, the museum is ready to expand into new locations.
