A Proposal Four Years in the Making
After their first date, Jack Hyer decided that he wanted to marry Rebecca Strellnauer -eventually. Over the next four years, while he worked on a college degree, he constructed an elaborate music video lip-synching to “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers with clips of their travels in 26 different countries.
It’s an epic effort, but this kind of open-ended project is not so difficult when you are just thinking about proposing. After all, he could have decided at any point not to let her in on the purpose of the video and abandon it completely. But the round-the-world travel makes the end product really special. We wish them all the happiness in the world. (via Time)

Star Wars Interview 1977
In the summer of 1977, The Mike Douglas Show welcomed three little-known actors, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrisons Ford, on to talk about their new movie Star Wars. What was strange is that they talked about Star Wars a little, but the majority of the banter was about other things. Douglas talked to Fisher about her family, and Hamill was asked about his previous roles. Ford was hardly given any time at all. Just a few years after this show, any one of the three could have carried an entire hour. (via Metafilter)
What Dogs Dream About
They say you should let sleeping dogs lie, and Mabel is twitching, so Mr. Andrew Cotter assumes she is dreaming of chasing squirrels. But in this video, we see that Mabel has higher aspirations. She dreams of being a police detective! Oh wait, no, she's dreaming of being a TV star in a series about a police detective! And now Cotter's fans are demanding a full episode of Willing and Mabel every week. (via Laughing Squid)

A Cash Flow Problem
Kingsland, Arkansas, is the birthplace of country musician Johnny Cash, and features a silhouette of the Man in Black on its water tower. Last week, someone shot the tower with amazing aim, and started a leak in a "very sensitive area" of the silhouette. For days, the image of Cash has appeared to be peeing on the town. A suspect has been arrested in the incident. Stephen Colbert addressed the story with a musical number. (via Metafilter)

Cody Plays Peekaboo
Don’t you wish you had a bird like this? At least for a few minutes, but this kind of thing may get annoying after a couple of hours. Cody is a ring-necked parrot, which explains why he looks a bit like a robot in this video. He’s about ten years old, and he’s got his favorite routine down pat. It’s nice to have someone around who’s always in the mood to laugh! (via Daily Picks and Flicks)
