Josephine Baker Dances
The dance of the chorus girls is neither elegant nor inspired, and frankly, somewhat clumsy. Josephine Baker, fortified by a few drinks, takes the stage to show how it's done. Her dance is energetic, uninhibited, and joyous. That's how you please a crowd. This clip is from the 1935 French film Princess Tam Tam.
A Honest Trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps
the hoopla around the Marvel movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps was whether it would be a disaster like the previous attempts at putting these four superheroes on screen. The verdict from Screen Junkies is, it's no disaster. In fact, it's a pretty fun watch. They still find plenty to snark about.
Could We Survive by Eating Only Humans?
The premise of the "What If" series has always been to treat stupid theoretical questions seriously, and therefore we may learn something. The dumb theoretical question in this video is "How long can the human race survive on only cannibalism?" Cannibalism is a disgusting idea and has always been taboo, but Randall Munroe and Henry Reich tackle it as serious (while still inserting their opinions). Relying on cannibalism would quickly make us pure carnivores, and there are many reasons that eating carnivores is a bad idea.
Once you get around that, you get into the law of diminishing returns. If you are trying to "save" humanity, how many people must survive? It won't be enough to keep the freezers full of the unlucky ones going. Otherwise, if we all just eat each other over time, humanity will not last all that long.
The Quest to End Aging
If you could decide how long you want to live, how would you answer? The longer your life is, the more likely you will spend the later years in illness and disability. Would it be worth it to add years on the end, or could we ever stop the effects of aging? This is a two-part video; the first part by Kurzgesagt, the second by C.G.P. Grey. That's what they tell us, although they could easily work as two videos by two different video producers on two different subjects.l
The idea of living a lot longer than we do now opens up some philosophical questions. Would longer lives make us wiser, better community members, or encourage us to take better care of our planet? Or would it lead us to take time for granted? C.G.P. Grey looks at death and the meaning of life.
So what if we could conquer death? What would be the downside? (via Laughing Squid)

Women Be Pipin'
We've long enjoyed AC/DC music played on bagpipes. Now we have it in a collaboration of women pipers across three continents! This is a medley of "Thunderstruck" and "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" by The Goddesses of Bagpipes. They are Archy J (The Snake Charmer) from India, Dame of Drones from the US, and Jane Espie (The Phantom Piper) from Scotland.
RIP Jane Goodall
Jane Goodall, who knew more about chimpanzees than anyone, died today while she was on a speaking tour in California. More at Neatorama.
How Do You Use A Jar of Peanut Butter?
Boysie
Boysie may have been a stray, but he was destined to be a pet. Maybe he was a pet in his past. It just took him a while to assess the odds of success with his new family. The experience of medical treatments probably did not help there, but it was the best thing for him in the long run.
The Boo Hag
Do you suffer from insomnia or sleep apnea? Do you wake up exhausted after what you thought was a good night's sleep? Or have you ever suffered sleep paralysis? You may be the victim of a boo hag! This malevolent spirit that looks like a human, but has no skin, sneaks into your bedroom through an opening as small as a keyhole. A boo hag will then sit on you and steal your life force, or maybe even your blood, as you lay there helpless.
The legend of the boo hag comes from the Gullah Geechee folk of South Carolina's coastland. So you can guess that keeping the boo hag away is a matter of painting your porch haint blue. There are other ways to deflect or defeat the boo hag, as Dr. Emily Zarka explains in this episode of Monstrum.

The Walking Gingerbread
Sesame Street brings us another parody, this time putting the Muppets into a scenario that will remind you of The Walking Dead. The style is there, but the zombies are bad cookies called crumbies, their prey is the good cookies (which is redundant), and the sheriff is Cookie Monster. That leads to some issues, as you might guess. (via Uproxx)
Brass
You have to hand it to the generals. Unlike so many other people in this country, they know how to conduct themselves in public. They know they are supposed to be apolitical. So they greeted Trump's political speech with silence. And you could have heard a medal drop when Pete Hegseth finished.
