HOAs are for people who bought a home but miss all the benefits of having a landlord (absurd rules and regulations, fine print detailing on contracts, working to evict the people who are most in need of being housed and cared for, and taking your money in return for nothing)

Watch a Spider in Action
Mesmerizing! Read more about the orb-weaving spider here. (via Nag on the Lake)This fascinating timelapse of an orb-weaver spider building her web is even more remarkable considering she removes it before dawn each day and constructs a new one every night to avoid daytime predators.

September 2021
Pretty much the same as every other September, with the Sundays in a different place. This calendar is brought to you by Matt Shirley.
Setting Off a Metal Detector in Japan
Coming home from the Olympics, Kelsey Mitchell walked through an airport security metal detector, and the alarm went off. Oh dear, what could have caused that? Mitchell wordlessly fessed up once she had everyone's attention- it was her gold medal! She won Canada's seventh and final gold medal, in women’s track sprint, a cycling event. Her video has since gone viral for its cheekiness. (via Bits and Pieces)

Longboarding Close Calls
Josh Neuman is a longboarder, skating down mountains at terrifying speeds, avoiding cliffs, pebbles, road signs, walls, other longboarders, and the occasional motor vehicle. He hasn't killed himself yet, but in ten years he's had some close calls, which he recounts in this top-ten video. It contains NSFW language, and may cause vertigo or queasy stomach. (via Geekologie)

Popular Medieval Memes Explained
We know that medieval art can be really weird. It's one thing to find a random jousting snail or an ugly baby Jesus, but when those things happen over and over, you start to wonder what caused those trends. Some of these can be explained by the religious culture of the time, while others are recurring jokes, which we might even call memes. So it's only fitting that they have become memes all over again in the 21st century!
55 Unfortunately Unfinished Films
Many more movies get started than ever get finished. Some of those abandoned projects have good reasons they were never completed, but some would have been wonderful to see! Will someone bring the good ones to the theater for us, please? (via mental_floss)
