Toby the Destroyer
This guy has to put up with his landlord’s crow named Toby. If you didn’t already know Toby’s name, he’ll be glad to tell you who he is. I get the feeling that the videographer isn’t very fond of Toby. Let’s hope the other tenants aren’t as bothered by the bird. (via Arbroath)
Bedtime for the Twins
Henriette Jonassen has twin toddler boys. That in itself is a circus, and getting them to bed is a farce of Benny Hill proportions. In the Norwegian summer, the sun stays out late at night, and what kid wants to go to bed when it’s daylight? Jonassen says she’s tried different methods, and managed to capture video evidence of the worst one so far.
At first, I laughed, remembering how it was putting two toddlers to bed myself years ago, and then I cringed, remembering that I am babysitting grandchildren next week. (via Daily Picks and Flicks)
Kayakers Get Up Close with Whales
How close can you get to a whale? Just ask Jonah, Marlin, or Pinocchio! These two kayakers, a father and daughter, off the coast of Argentina didn’t get swallowed, but they managed to get lifted out of the water when a massive whale surfaced. Sure, you want to get a good look, but whales are like icebergs: there’s a lot more under the water than meets the eye. (via Viral Viral Videos)

Dog Plays Fetch Alone
We’ve seen some videos here and there of dogs throwing their own ball to fetch, but can you think of a better place to do it than a boat ramp? The ball gets its own momentum, and the dog gets to swim, too, as long as he’s not in a big hurry to catch the ball. This dog’s got it all figured out! (via Tastefully Offensive)
An ASL Singalong
Paul and Tina Sirimarco perform in the car to with the song “You’re The One That I Want” from Grease in American Sign Language ..and it’s just as cute as can be! Tina is an ASL interpreter and Paul learned ASL because he loves Tina. I got just a tad nervous when he took his hands off the steering wheel, but they seem to have made it through the drive. -via Pleated-Jeans

Tickling a Fawn
Justin Lewis is an electrical lineman in Kentucky. He and his crew were cutting trees and limbs one day and found a fawn hidden in the way of the tree fall. When he picked the baby up to move it, he automatically held it like a human baby, which caused the fawn to go limp. So of course, he tickled its belly! Lewis says,
Caught another deer at work today and we were rubbing its belly and it would freak out if we stopped and tried to put it down. #Spoileddeer(via Daily Picks and Flicks)
**UPDATE** The momma deer was watching from the hillside. The fawn was following us around the job site, so we carried it up the hillside and he left with his mother. I assure you she did not reject it.
26 Unusual Occupations
Need a job? Or maybe you need to change your occupation to something really different. Elliott Morgan hosts this week’s mental_floss video and tells us about some strange and different jobs that people actually get paid to do. You probably have to know someone to get one of these positions. Or at least have some kind of expertise. or both. If that wasn’t the case, I’d be a professional ice cream taster already. Charles Marohn was a municipal engineer who maintained roads, upgraded sewer systems, kept up with state and federal building codes, and oversaw the spread of suburbs. That is, until several events led him to realize that what he was doing was not in the best interest of communities and their futures.
National Geographic Traveler announced the winners of their 2014 photo contest. The first place photograph looks like an alien spaceship ready to suck up cows.
Here's the psychology behind our love of Frozen. It’s a fairy tales that criticizes fairy tale tropes while using them in a new way. (Hint: you only need the first four minutes of the video.)
Chinese vendors have found the perfect way to get $80 for a box of nine peaches. You just have to dress them up the right way.
Why are extraterrestrials obsessed with Earth’s cows? Maybe because there are just so many of them …or maybe because they are so tasty.

Kids’ Room Spacecraft
If you recall, Jeff Highsmith built a Mission Control Desk for his older son that had all kinds of space buttons, knobs, and sound effects. What could he possibly do to follow that up? Build a spaceship, of course! Highsmith built a spacecraft in his younger son’s room that connects to the Mission Control Desk in his brother’s room. The spacecraft has controls that make all kinds of sounds, from Apollo clips to a toilet flush. The dashboard panel can even replicate sequences from Apollo missions! But that’s just the beginning: the payload bay has a robotic arm that is remotely controlled from the control panel, and monitored by camera. Since they are hooked up, the spacecraft and Mission Control in the other room can experience adventures together. There’s more on the building process at Make. (Thanks, Daniel Kim!)
