Somehow, I've never seen this clip from the premiere episode of short-lived TV series Cop Rock in 1990. The song was written by Randy Newman and sung by Carl Anderson, who you might remember from the movie Jesus Christ Superstar. It's come up over and over in the many online discussions of yesterday's Manhattan verdict. It was posted to YouTube six years ago, and through the comments you'll find that it spikes every time there's a high-profile guilty verdict in the news.

We all knew he was guilty, the real question is now it's official does it matter?

And what Anonymous said is ...
... he's going DOWN !
Many years ago, some channel ran a Cop Rock marathon, and I watched a few hours.
Enjoyable. More or less by-the-numbers Bochco cops & lawyers show, but with music.
LOVE IT, LOL!
Cop Rock is my favorite show of all time. It's such a train wreck. The cop drama is very good. The musical numbers (sometimes) hit and (often) miss. This misses are so cringe but the hits are beautiful. I had all 11 episodes on VHS for years, now have the DVD. Watched the whole thing all the way through at least a dozen times.
I'll just back away slowly now.
My long term partner and now ex-girlfriend, and I, both love singing and her more than me loves musicals and other girlie stuff.
The Venn diagram that nobody has ever drawn about us has her liking such as Oklahoma and the song from that stage show, and me a bit more rock with my leaning towards The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horror ... and the inner circle would show us driving the verdant highways of back country New Zealand, pelting out the songs from Jesus Christ, Superstar, and getting lost as we were so concentrating on getting the song right that we often missed signs telling where to turn off ... it made for some surprise visits to towns we didn't know existed.
Was it Carl Anderson who was Judas in that Superstar movie ? I remember it was Ted Nealy as Jesus, and Evonne ??? as Mary.
I am pretty sure I still remember all the lyrics to all the songs from that movie, and the ex still lectures at university and so her brain is far more compos mentis than mine, so she'll know them all for sure.
About the only thing I miss about her really, driving all over singing.
Lol
