I wonder if the old USSR had stories about how the USA was developing aircraft, bombs, and missiles, to obliterate them.
Lots depends on your point of view, modern day Russia probably didn't like all the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation military bases sitting in all but 2 of the 10 countries bordering them, so cue Ukraine.
Even Cuba couldn't feel that threatened.
Over here in the Western South Pacific, our prime minister (think president but without all the fanfare you guys load onto one man) has spoken up in support of Trump's/the USA's actions ... but thats probably to deflect any future attention from the school yard bully.
Modern day Russia ! ... I am white, as white as they come, even if I have gone gray on top and my skin is more of a cappuccino colour ... and years ago I watched a TV news report about aid to some place in Eastern Europe, probably a country subsumed by one of the new ones (?) .... and as they handed down sacks of grain or whatever, I noticed the women looked just like my mum, except they wore head scarves, and my mum didn't ... I am talking spitting images of my mum, like they were my mum's 9 sisters or something, faces, body shape (I have inherited that, sadly) ... ok, the language was vastly different, but still.
That had me, at 15 no less, searching out historical movements of European people, my people, YOUR people if your skin is what is called white ... and I found out why we whities are called Caucasians ... it's because we originated from the Caucasus mountains area, which pretty much forms the border of modern day Georgia.
So you'll excuse me if I said all the above in an Appalachian accent.
