Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street was released on June11, 1947, even though it's very much a Christmas movie. Or maybe it's a Thanksgiving movie, since it starts with the Macy's parade. It stars Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, 8-year-old Natalie Wood, and Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle. Most people see it as a feel-good film about the magic of Christmas, but it's also my favorite courtroom drama.

My mother was 4 when the movie came out, so we grew up watching it also. That movie messed with our heads because my mother looked similar to Natalie Wood at different times. And my grandmother's pictures from that era looked like Maureen O'Hara in the movie.

Side comment when Edmund Gwenn was in hospice a friend came and said how hard it must be to be dying. Gwenn, always a thespian, rallied and answered "Comedy is hard"
