Arizona senator Mark Kelly is in the news these days. You already know he was a Navy pilot and hero in the Gulf War. Then in 1996 he went to NASA and became an astronaut, specifically a space shuttle pilot. This is what you call public service. But it's not the whole story.
Kelly married Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-Arizona) in 2007. In 2011, she was shot in the head at a public event (six people were killed). She spent six months in the hospital and suffered brain damage. Kelly had no plans to retire from NASA before this, but he knew he needed to take care of his wife, so that's what he did. A couple of years later, NASA called him up and offered him a job where he could stay home. See, Kelly has an identical twin brother, Scott Kelly, who was also an astronaut at the time. They were going to study the effects of long-term space living, and Mark would be the control twin. Kelly jumped at the chance to continue his public service while taking care of Giffords. You can read more on that year-long experiment at Neatorama.
Giffords recovered enough that she didn't need round-the-clock care. Kelly, who had left NASA in his 40s, wasn't done with public service. In 2020, he became a US senator (D-Arizona).
Mark Kelly has spent his life in public service. That is, except for the years he spent in private service because he loves his wife and she needed him. Serving others for the greater good is ingrained in him. Contrast that with the life of our current president, who never spent one minute in public service until he was elected to the highest office in the land, and who is currently calling for Kelly to be labeled a traitor. Which kind of man would you prefer to be the leader of the whole nation?

Presidential material for sure!
I'd vote for him. Because he's not just blue, he's red, white and blue.
Kelly was registered as an independent until just a few years ago, even though he was married to a democrat long before!
I think your current president has still never spent one minute in public service. He is in it for himself only - he loves the power, and is raking in the money with his various schemes.
The horror/comedy show provided for us people outside the USA (in white ruled countries, at least) by your current president, is entertaining, but imagine the respect the USA could once again have if you all elected someone 'presidential'.
Rather than a fake tanned buffoon with one hand grabbing for pussy and the other grabbing for money.
This 'Emperor’s new clothes' travesty is really beyond a joke.
He calls people ugly ? That alone should be enough to have him removed ... and lined up against the wall ... with all his family members ... just in case one of them runs for pres.
The treatment of Mark Kelly by the current administration is despicable. Trumpenfuhrer, a.k.a. Captain Bonespurs, should just STFU already.
Go ahead, FBI. "Investigate" these patriotic service men and women. Make it all as public as you like. Draw attention to what honor looks like. Show the nation what it means to uphold your oath to defend the Constitution.
You forgot GTFO.
Serving others is the very definition of hero.
I'm from Luxembourg, Europe. Our country always was one the most fervent defenders and allies of the US in Europe. Guess what. After the first Trump term, it started to vanish. Now it simply is gone. Not only because of Trump / a government. Bu5 because 50 % of Anericans VOTED for such a...person. It's over, USA. You won't recover from this for at least a generation, if ever.
@Luxembourg, isolationism and appeasement did not work for the U.K. in the 1930s. The U.S. doing the same (isolation and trying to appease Russia) are not working for us or anyone else in the world. I grieve for what our corrupt government is doing and how the policy of surrendering democracy to authoritarianism will harm everyone.
