From 1907. This is not all that uncommon. A long time ago, my family lived in a subdivided house with other grad students and their families. There were three kids the same age. No one thought three-year-olds needed to be supervised in the front yard, or else they were confused about who was supposed to watch us. They didn't know we had figured out how to open the gate. But we did, and so we played postman. We gathered all the mail from boxes on the block, and were surprised that our parents were upset about it. (via Undine)

Of course your parents were worried, stealing mail is a federal offence, you could all have got chucked in the pen.
You probably should have been.
