Two Ways To Film The Same Scene

I saw the Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan movie You've Got Mail and hated it because he destroys her business and she loves him anyway. There was no such nonsensical relationship bomb in the 1940 movie The Shop Around the Corner, which otherwise is the same film, as they were both adapted from 1937 Hungarian play Parfumerie. Some scenes are fairly identical, but since they were filmed in different eras, the differences show up in the framing and editing. The reasons for this are more than just the style of the time; it also has to do with the influence of the stage production in the earlier film and the advanced technical capabilities available for the 1998 version.
