LinkedIn is a social network for working. You are supposed to make professional connections, post your resume, get hired or find people to hire. Stuff like that. My main interaction with it is deleting the tons of people who want to become my network connection but have no earthly reason to do so.

Depends on how you use it. I get quite a bit from it
and have one big rule: Don't connect to 'Business
Development' people - they're just selling; and don't
connect to recruiters (unless maybe they're local) -
they're just building a contacts database and want to
see who you're connected to. Stay within your field
(for the most part)and at some point stop lurking and
join the discussion.
