Beat the Freeze

"Beat the Freeze" is a bit of entertainment during at Atlanta Braves games, in which a fan gets a chance to race against the character called The Freeze. They even give the fan a 200-foot head start. That head start can disorient a fellow.

The moral of the story is: don't celebrate until you cross the finish line! As other have pointed out there's a greater-than-zero chance that the whole thing was staged, but it's still funny. (via Metafilter)

I don't think it was staged.  First of all, the contestant isn't getting a a 200-foot headstart.  Count his steps from when he leaves the foul line to when 'The Freeze' leaves; I got something like 18 or 19 steps, and if you figure he's covering even five feet per step that's still only about 100 feet at most.  Secondly, the guy dressed as 'The Freeze' was running like he knew what he was doing; it's probably someone who used to run the 440 on a high school or (more likely) college track team.

Experienced athlete versus Joe Sixpack, even with a 100-foot head start?  My money is on the athlete.
