German cake/Bakers chocolate CONSPIRACY! I'm so disillusioned. I bought a German chocolate cake from a bakery once for a friend's birthday -- holy moly, it was so expensive that I said the cake was the present. I'm no fool, wasn't gonna get dinged twice.
Well. I've always just assumed that Baker's chocolate wasn't about bakers because of the apostrophe. Marketing luck I guess. But as for Mrs. George Clay and her German Chocolate cake; that was some truly disappointing news. Makes me wonder about American tourists in Germany trying to find a piece of the "real" thing.
My diabetes thanks you for giving forth with recipes that ask ... nay, demand, a certain brand of chocolate not available in my country.
Do not be disillusioned, I reside in a modern 'western' country (even if it is sort of east and south of some unmentioned datum point) with indoor plumbing, electricity, speedy internet and an abundance of friendly cats.
But calling for Baker's chocolate !!!
That's like me supplying you with a recipe for a delicious, wondrous, sexy looking chocolate cake and pointing out that you MUST use Whittaker's chocolate !
Lol, you can't get Whittaker's anywhere but New Zealand and Australia ... and it really is the nicest chocolate there is.
So, suffer your inferior branded chocolate ingredients, you will never know the sweetness, the aftertaste, the magnificence, of a no name chocolate cake baked in my cat hair filled kitchen, using Whittaker's chocolate and vague amounts of other ingredients, literally thrown in.
I was buying a ticket to New Zealand to try this chocolate wonder until I hit the cat hair comment. :-)
Meh. Or you could just go to Amazon and buy a block. Even better, just get some Cadbury. That's probably available locally and is basically the same thing.
