ReplyDeleteI am White and male, but speak taught at my mother's knee English with a non American accent ... the U.S.A. would quite possibly not be safe for me.
Especially as where I come from we treat police officers as ordinary humans, not heavily armed, trigger happy, masked when working for ICE, over testosterone fuelled, knuckle dragging Neanderthals ... and so we are free to talk back and argue if they are wrong or mista BANG, BANG ... SHUT UP SON ... bloody foreigner.

It is easy to feel some sympathy for the Japanese regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

But one also has to remember the way they were during World War II.
The Chinese, painted as modern day baddies and makers of cheap, shitty, goods, were, during WWII, tortured and killed by the Japanese, in the millions (if the books I read are truthful).
As was any other Asian people that stood in the way of the Japanese.
My often home, Australia, (still predominantly White, even if the United Nations insists on more and more immigration from vastly different cultures) came near to being Japanese, with the (then) Yellow Terror, killing, raping, and torturing, all the way down through South East Asia, the Indonesian Archipelago, Papua New Guinea, and the Northern Territory of Australia (the Northern Territory is like a state, but without the legal status of one)
That polite gentle person you may meet as an agent of a major Japanese company, is perhaps the grandson of a homicidal maniac, hell bent on killing his war time enemies, too died (lol) in the wool proud to return home without having done so.
Guess it is easy to forget how many lives were actually saved by the United States of America dropping their two atom bombs.
