English

People used to criticize my boss for a small grammar faux pas, and I would point out that English is his fourth language. Remember the beam in your own eye. (via Bored Panda)

  1. I'm try-lingual. I will try to learn the niceties: hello, please, thank you, etc. I always ask they write it down for me because I'm visual. If I can see it written, it stays in my head longer.
I never make fun of someone trying English. I only correct them if we have more than a passing acquaintance and only if they want to be corrected.
For me, speaking another language is much like knowing music: you're one up on me!!

  3. 'Remember the beam in your own eye' has me stumped.
Something about not pointing lasers at flying aircraft ?
Something about splashing Jim Beam in your face ?
Maybe it is supposed to be 'bean' ?
    Lost at sea is me.

    1. It's from the Bible. Matthew 7:3. "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" It means be aware of your own faults before you criticize others.

  4. Simpler way to put it is "don't be a dick"
