In the latest theoretical question explored in the What If? series, someone asked "What if you had all the money in the world?" Well, it would instantly become useless, because money is just a medium of exchange, and it's no good when it's not exchanged. The rest of the world would just find some other way to keep track of trade, rendering your "money" worthless. But that would be too simple for an answer, so Randall Munroe and Henry Reich guys looked at the question from a different direction. How big of a pile of cash would you have, and how would you store it? It's a purely logistical view, but still interesting.
Unca Scrooge answered all this about 74 years ago. What's wanted is a "three cubic acre" money bin, in which you can burrow through the cash like a gopher and toss it up and let it hit you on the head.
ReplyDeleteMost don't realize it but money goes bad if you don't use it.
