Just another reminder that the humble squirrel totally lucked out in the evolutionary lottery.
Would this be cute if any other similarly-sized rodent was doing this? Like a big rat, for example ... would any of us put our finger in a rat's mouth to be led to her baby rats?
No, of course not. And only because of that damn bushy tail. Squirrels got lucky with that one. We would treat them so differently if they had pink hairless tails like other rodents.
Imagine a squirrel with a regular rodent tail scurrying up the tree in your yard, or drinking from your bird feeder. I know I'd have a totally different reaction to seeing a squirrel if they didn't have the bushy tail. They totally lucked out with that one.
Rescued squirrel or not, it's still a wild animal. I'd never get that friendly with one.
