The 1933 movie King Kong was not the first stop-motion film, but it was the first stop-motion blockbuster hit and therefore the first time most people saw the animation effect. Here's how it was done. (Thanks, WTM!)
I've watched it, or parts of it, dozens of times as it used to be a late night TV staple in regular rotation. Definitely fun every time picking out details previously missed or forgotten.
Definitely worth a watch!
