Comedian Trae Crowder, known at YouTube as the Liberal Redneck, is taking a break from politics to show his fellow hillbillies how to make carbonara. The dish is known in some parts as Italian style bacon and eggs. The real history of spaghetti alla carbonara is pretty murky, but a popular version has US soldiers in 1944 Italy wanting bacon and eggs for breakfast. The Americans had plenty of bacon, eggs, and cheese allotted to them but asked Italian chefs to cook them. Those soldiers brought the recipe to the US when they returned from the war.
Crowder, who is from Tennessee, prepares the dish in a way no Italian can find fault with, as seen in the comments. However, the cream did give some of them the willies for a moment. Italians are known to be particularly touchy about carbonara. Many of his regular fans were astonished at his cooking abilities. After all, he is all about subverting expectations. Guanciale is Italian for hog jowl, so that's not far from Crowder's wheelhouse, anyway.
