  2. Published in 1891 by Menie Muriel Dowie, 50 cents. Has received whole columns of editorial eulogy and is sure to have an immense sale. It is bound in handsome enameled paper cover, adorned with a cut of the young lady in her traveling costume.

Menie Muriel Dowie was an English novelist and travel writer. She spent her early twenties traveling of which her tour through the Carpathian Mountains in 1890 is most notable. She published her account of that travel in 1891. She is considered as one of the New Woman writers due to her depiction of sexual relationships. Dowie was married to Henry Norman who was later made baronet and accused her of adultry with mountaineer Edward Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald was an American-born mountaineer and soldier of British descent, best known for leading the expedition which made the first ascent of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the American Continent, in 1897. Dowi and Norman divorced and she later married Fitzgerald, so yeah on the adultry I think.

And here's the book: A Girl in the Karpathians

Happy rabbit hole day Miss C!
