He said the number of languages in use across North America has dropped from 300 to 170? That's a bad thing? Isn't it better to all speak the same language to understand and get along with each other. Not translating but actually using the language with all its nuances and inflected meanings.
Everybody wants to feel special, belong to a fraternal organisation, or exclusive club, graduate from a posh school, for bragging rights. In reality they want to have somebody they can feel superior to, look down on. I don't think that leads to harmony, but strife. Those who feel they are being degraded by people acting superior are more likely to strike back... violently.
