That 12 ounce can of Spam costs $3.59 at the nearest Walmart, $3.79 at Target. The Walmart price calculates to $4.77 a pound. We bought 2 turkeys today for $1.19/lb and a 5 lb turkey breast for $1.99/lb. A spiral cut boneless ham cost me $4.48/lb today.
Spam is a lot of things, but at close to $5/lb, it ain't cheap.
Remember the episode of M*A*S*H when Hawkeye and Trapper came up with a 'SPAM lamb' after Radar freed the actual lamb that was supposed to be an Easter dinner?
Spam, unlike the turkey and ham, doesn't have to be cooked which ain't cheap either. Zip top can, open anywhere without tools, use the zip lid for a knife to carve the meat. Grandma would have killed for the convenience.
Nor do you pay for bones with a turkey breast or boneless ham. Not much liquid in those either.
And has been available since 1937 (my grandmother was 39 that year). The original cans had the tops that came with the key to roll back the top. I trust that she did not kill anyone to get her hands on Spam...
I am a fan of Spam, there are two cans in my pantry right now. I'm just sayin' it is not cheap. Not much is nowadays. Spam does not contain tryptophan, so there is that...
Whether you have turkey, ham, Spam, venison or whatever for Thanksgiving, have a safe and relaxing day/weekend.

Nice artwork, though.
