Elio came from a tragic situation in which he was the only surviving raccoon in his litter. Too young to be alone, he was taken in by Samadhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Florida, where he received intensive care. Elio was tiny and starving, but he thrived under their care. The aim is to return wildlife to the wild, but when Elio went out on his own, he returned injured and was left with a mobility issue that meant he would never survive in the wild. But Elio was bonded with his caregivers, and even got a little brother when Maverick was rescued all alone in the middle of winter. You can follow Elio, plus the many raccoons, deer, ducks, armadillos, bats, opossums, and squirrels at the sanctuary at Instagram.
