Every once in a while, the government offers lighthouses for sale. These notices make you wonder what happens when someone actually buys one. Sheila Consaul managed to do it, and turned her lighthouse in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, into a wonderful living space with three bedrooms and a modern kitchen. She had to install off-grid electrical and plumbing systems, replace all the window glass, and have the kitchen appliances delivered by a crane and barge. She did all this while preserving as many historic details as possible. Consaul has been working on the renovations for more than then years now. In this video, Consaul shows us around her lighthouse home, describes how the renovation went, and shows us how living in a working lighthouse is delightfully different from a regular house. I heard recently Canada has a bunch, something like 100, lighthouses up for grabs.
