When William Shatner recorded the intro to the TV show Star Trek in 1966, he no doubt did his best because he was the star of the show. But he had no clue what he was starting. The low-budget science fiction series was lucky to get renewed for a second season. But more than 50 years later, it is a beloved franchise with dozen of spinoff shows and movies. As such, Anson Mount was well aware of the burden of doing justice to the intro to the newest spinoff Strange New Worlds, in which he plays Captain Christopher Pike, who commanded the starship Enterprise before Captain Kirk.
It was a big promotion for the former Confederate officer who supervised the construction work on the Transcontinental Railroad. The move from the 19th century to the 23rd century left Mount fairly unrecognizable.
In this interview with Denmark's Moovy TV, Mount and co-star Rebecca Romijn talk about Strange New worlds, and the day Mount recorded the words to the show's intro. What else was going on during that time in 2021? This. (via Laughing Squid)
