You know hippos are large, scary, unpredictable creatures who aren't afraid of anything. You might be surprised to learn that hippos are related to whales and dolphins, which explains some of their weird adaptations that allow them to live comfortably in water. Unlike dolphins, they never went all the way in giving up their feet for an aquatic life. But trying to live like an amphibian when you're a mammal makes for a rather weird lifestyle for the hippo.
