ReplyDeletegwdMaine, that's how most of the country used to work, but now if you pull some guy out of a snow drift two of his buddies jump you or his lawyer sues you to poverty. Oh, and you take him to the hospital they'll throw him back in the snowbank without insurance or stick you with the bill.

is shortsighted.
I know for a fact that goes both ways. A word could devastate boys too, only the macho expectation having been drilled into us by peers forced us to bluff, bluster, or joke. None of those things helped the pain and crushed confidence.
That said, the piece is well worth reading.
