  1. We still have 5 or 6 Lustron homes in the Des Moines area- it seems like every 10 years or so the local paper "rediscovers" them, and publishes an article on them. To me, the most interesting fact is using magnets to put things on the walls!

    Thanks, Miss C!

  2. Love those book covers/titles, LOL! My fave is "My Horse Says I'm a Bad Kisser."

  3. How's the WiFi signal in that steel house?

  4. @Anonymous: Good question. I went to the DM Register's archives (which of course are paywalled- boo), and found some pictures and an article from 1993. Since that is pre-wi-fi for most people, no mention of access.

It did say that there were 15 Lustron houses in the Des Moines,Iowa area and the Des Moines was one of the first cities in the country to receive the houses when they came out.

  5. I wonder if that star even still exists. Our Sun and our solar system certainly didn't exist 12.9 billion years ago.

  6. There are still three or four, still in use, scattered around the La Crosse WI area.  As a single male living alone, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could get it at a reasonable price.  Probably no worse than living in a 14x70 mobile home.

  7. The Lustron story was great. I found a
    great article on them also:

    Lustron Homes

And within the Wikipedia article is another
link detailing where they all are:

    Wikipedia List of Lustron Homes

I also read elsewhere that wi-fi
would probably work OK as the home is
small and the signals could travel
    though the horizontal panel seams.
