It's just that a good saber, like those used in the Civil War or carried by officers in the US 7th Cavalry during the days of Custer, is so doggoned expensive these days.
That's why I still carry a full-sized Zefal HP-4 on my bikes. It's made of aluminum and about the same size as a police baton, It's good for keeping aggressive dogs at bay, and I could use it to deliver a fairly effective beat-down on someone if it ever came down to that.
And when I have a flat or low tire, I'm still able to use it to put air in them!

No apparent curve to the blade, so it probably is not a saber.
