I once dated a dental student. I asked him why he chose that profession, and he said that a dentist helps people and makes a lot of money, like a doctor, but you aren't on call 24/7 and you don't have to watch your patients die. He's now a successful dentist in Ohio. Steve Martin, on the other hand had different reasons for going into the profession in this clip from the movie Little Shop of Horrors.
