I would have thought that faxes were pretty much obsolete too, but apparently they're still big in real estate practice. That's what I hear, anyway.
I live in 2021, and I send faxes regularly. Not from where I live, but at work. Apparently the medical world (at least in Australia) conduct all their business by fax. Email is considered too insecure for transmitting medical details.
The US medical community also uses faxes very frequently. We use a virtual fax service.
