(via Fark)1. Vatican City is a foreign country: their laws are different.

2. in the "at will" employment that YOU REPUBLICANS want so much, here in the USA your employer can fire you for not getting vaccinated.
so... maybe brush up on what your own party stands for too
"At will" employment also means you can be fired for literally any other reason they want to use. In fact, they are not obligated to give you any reason at all; they can just tell you that 'your services are no longer required' – and don't let the doorknob hit you in the butt on the way out.
ReplyDeleteIt also means that you, as the employee, are free to leave at any time and — if I understand it correctly — you are not required to give notice or train your replacement before you leave... although not giving notice or cooperating with your late employer's requests pretty much guarantees you will NOT receive a glowing recommendation from them when you apply for your next job.
Yet there's a whole segment of society out there who have been brainwashed into believing that they still get a better deal because they don't have to join a union or pay union dues but will somehow still get union-scale wages because they are so 'indispensible' to their current position. Go figure.
The exception is that you can't fire someone for discriminatory reasons, like because they are a woman or minority. That's why an employer will always give a reason to certain fired employees, which can be as lame as "I want to give my brother-in-law your job."
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I've read that the Vatican has clarified the statement, saying that they will find "alternative solutions" for people who don't want to get the vaccine--basically moving them to positions where they aren't exposing the public.
ReplyDeleteRight you are, Miss C. I suppose you could even be fired because the boss is a Bears fan while you root for the Packers, and that's enough to rub him the wrong way. That's why I included the hypothetical reason that "your services are no longer required." A simple, bland, plain-vanilla reason/excuse, and there is nothing there that could even hint you are being let go for discriminatory reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is that most people who play this game know how it to play so the odds are ever in their favor, so as long as the employer is smart enough to not say or write anything that could be actionable under anti-discrimination laws — and let's face it, most of them either are — they're in the clear.

It's amusing how non-Republicans like to lecture Republicans on what we stand for. As a Republican, I can tell you what we actually stand for: God gave human beings the ability and the right to decide what's best for ourselves in our own lives. We do not derive this Liberty from government. Government is empowered to act for and by the people, not the other way around. However, if a private business entity has legitimate needs that are at odds with your self-determinism, you're free to either go along with their requirements, or leave and go work for someone else.
