It's an occasional treat for me (when I have time) to watch reaction videos of young folk discovering old music. This one is surprising. It never occurred to me that young Black people don't know that the Bee Gees were white. But now that I think about it, Millennials and Zoomers didn't grow up watching MTV the way Gen X did, and certainly don't watch TV the way we Boomers did. They hear the classics on Spotify and movie soundtracks. So it's a revelation to watch young people discover the brothers Gibb in this compilation. (via reddit)
I only recently discovered (I'm 57) that the singer of "Funkytown" is a skinny white woman. Who can't dance.
ReplyDeleteSorry Anonymous: Cynthia Johnson, Lead singer of Lipps Inc, who performed Funkytown is most definitely not a skinny white woman.

Aha! It seems I was fooled, as I'd only seen the videos where the record company got a white girl to lip-sync it (ala Milli Vanilli). I stand corrected.
