The Best Attraction in Every State

Matt Shirley has published a followup to his map of the worst attraction in every state, also according to his Instagram followers. It's very noticeable that the best attractions are overwhelmingly natural resources, as compared to manmade attractions. It's sad that a few states have nothing to boast, at least among those who responded. I've been to quite a few of these, how about you?

  1. You do you, Kansas!

  2. I can personally attest for the accuracy of North Dakota.

  3. Acadia National Park is overrun with people and cars, not necessarily in that order. I avoid it like the plague. Guess that's why it's #1. You are warned.

The Bourbon Trail is something I could definitely 'explore'. Suspect I would leave my backpack and hiking shoes home, eh?

  4. Looks like Matt Shirley, hasn't done his homework. There's much to see and do in my beautiful West Virginia. Here's just a few things, Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, Blackwater Falls State Park, New River Gorge Whitewater Rafting, Seneca Rocks and Monongahela National Forest, Seneca Caverns, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, Snowshoe Mountain one of the top 10 ski resorts in the east, Hatfield McCoy Trails and the list goes on.

  5. I'd say that Idaho's Shoshone Falls is worth seeing (Snake River flowing over twin falls higher than Niagara), and Natchez-Down-Under in Mississippi, though I haven't been there in 30 years.
And seriously- the Liberty Bell over Independance Hall? I know they're close to each other, but... it's a cracked bell.

  6. Have not been to West Virginia, but I have to believe that the Appalachian Mountains are beautiful there too. Kansas has -- at a minimum -- the Hutchinson Salt Mine/Museum. Can't believe that nobody selected the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. North Dakota has the Badlands (distinctive from those in South Dakota). And Mississippi ... well, yeah, I got nothin', but I have not traveled through much of it.

  7. Mississippi has the Vicksburg National Military Park and the Natchez Trace. Both of which are highly worth visiting.
