Nanliao, Taiwan, near Hsinchu City, hosted a kite festival amid unusually strong winds this past weekend. When one of the kites was launched, it dragged along a 3-year-old girl who had become entangled in the kite's tail. She was flung high in the air before kite operators could pull the kite down, and the crowd caught the little girls as she descended. The unidentified girl was not injured, at least physically. See a video from another angle below, in which the kite is prepared for launch. It takes off at about :45 in.
The child was rushed to a hospital, and was found to have only suffered a few scratches. The kite festival was immediately suspended. (via Geekologie)
After seeing half a dozen different videos of the launch showing that kid nowhere to be seen, how in hell did the kid get so firmly tied to that kite? All the videos stop at the launch then cut to the kid quite a ways up.
They never had rides like that when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteSo scary! That kid is lucky to be alive.
