1983
It's Thursday, so The Hood Internet has a new music mashup, this one with more than 50 songs from the year 1983. Hope this brings you some god memories!
Lunar Lander and Astronaut Halloween Costumes
Five-year-old Charlie had been following the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. For Halloween, her parents build her a Lunar Lander costume! Charlie's little sister, two-year-old Ellie, is an astronaut.
Charlie enters the costume by crawling underneath and there is a pair of shoulder straps that she uses to lift the entire costume. The costume looks heavier than it is -- it's almost entirely made of foam and foamboard. The front hatch magnetically closes and magnetically stays open, and doubles as a candy sample input port. The ascent stage (top part) separates from the descent stage (bottom part with landing pads) as you'll see below. You can see an image gallery of the lander and its construction at imgur. (via Boing Boing)
Halloween Candy
My dentist says he's okay with candy as long as you don't suck on it all day long, and as long as you clean your teeth afterward. This guy does it all wrong. The comic is from Alex Culang and Raynato Castro at Buttersafe.
Owl and Owl Duet
Oakley was an orphaned owlet that was taken in by Eagle Valley Raptor Center. For comfort, Oakley got a plush owl buddy who sang “The Monster Mash.” Here he sings and dances along with the mechanical toy. Oakley was later taught to hunt prey and was released into the wild. (via Metafilter)

Which Planet is Closest?
CGP Grey is back to lay some knowledge down. So which planet is closest to earth? Whatever you guess, you are wrong. The difference is in how we learned the planets in their order from the sun. They don't line up that way in reality. Here we get an amazing visualization of the planets in orbit around the sun, in their own speeds and paths, that might just blow your mind. You might also want to see a companion video that explores how the question is asked. (via reddit)

The Guide To Trading Candy
Trick or treaters, you know you're going to end up with candy you like and candy you don't like, as well as candy that no one likes. The best thing to do is to trade with your brothers and sisters, but you need some tips from Ze Frank on the most beneficial way to do it. Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster
The 1965 creature feature Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster is also known as Duel of the Space Monsters, Frankenstein Meets the Space Men, Mars Attacks Puerto Rico, Mars Invades Puerto Rico, and Operation San Juan. From Wikipedia:
All of the women on the planet Mars have died in an atomic war, except for Martian Princess Marcuzan (Marilyn Hanold). Marcuzan and her right-hand man, Dr. Nadir (Lou Cutell), decide they will travel to Earth and steal all of the women on the planet in order to continue the Martian race. The Martians shoot down a space capsule manned by the android astronaut Colonel Frank Saunders (Robert Reilly), causing it to crash in Puerto Rico. Frank's electronic brain and the left half of his face are damaged after encountering a trigger-happy Martian and his ray gun. Frank, now the "Frankenstein" of the title, described by his creator as an "astro-robot without a control system", proceeds to terrorize the island. A subplot involves the Martians abducting bikini-clad women.
The "Space Monster" of the title refers to a radiation-scarred mutant named Mull brought along as part of the Martian invasion force. The android and Mull battle each other at the end of the film and both are destroyed.

A Cat's Story
Walter Santi started feeding a stray calico cat in his back yard. She was limping, but he had to find her kittens before he could help her. Turns out she can't bend her back left knee because of an old injury. The family was moved to a foster home, where they live in luxury in their own sun room. Here they are, a couple of weeks later as the kittens are growing.
Then the mama cat was taken away for a while to be spayed. When she came home, the kittens did not know how to react. So they just got weird.
And if you want to see more exuberant kitten play, watch them after they had some more growth. They can jump to the mantelpiece now!
That's pretty much it, just kittens playing- and their mom got into the act in the end. When they are weaned, I hope she gets a well-deserved rest.
