Breaking: FL gov Ron DeSantis signs bill requiring people with past felony convictions to pay all restitution, fines & fees before voting. This is modern day poll tax gutting historic ballot initiative approved by 64% voters & could block 1000s from polls https://t.co/K6swzGMkPZ— Ari Berman (@AriBerman) June 28, 2019
I don't know. There is one side of me that agrees with Mother Jones, but another side of me that says if you haven't made restitution/paid your fines/etc, then you haven't completely fulfilled the terms of your sentence/penalty and should not receive your rights back as if you had.

I'm with Bicycle Bill on this. Does not affect me as I don't live in the US, but I can imagine the Brexit remoaners latching on to this to further their battle against democracy. I don't live in the UK either-just like to stick my oar in here and there!
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be fair to the democrats who count on the criminal and ignorant to get elected.
ReplyDeleteThe point is, if you are poor, you can't vote. If you have a criminal record, you can't get a job, can't earn money, can't vote.
ReplyDeleteI call BS Miss C, if illegals can get a job and earn money why can't felons.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't felons? Seriously? How many business owners do you know who happily hire ex-cons?
