Being what is colloquially termed colour blind (color blind in the USA) I find it hard to differentiate red from green and brown, and even from orange when it comes to car, Christmas, or street lights.
Spending lots of money to paint fire trucks red is pointless, as far as i am concerned, it just makes them blend in ... bright blue is a far better colour if you want your fire truck to be seen.
And another issue about the colour red is that is fades quickly when it bathes in the glorious and life giving rays of our sun (rah, rah, Ra !)
Just around the corner from where I live (Southern Hemisphere, sub-tropical) is a shop (think bodega) and on the wall of that shop, writ big, is an advertisement for a well known, black, high sugar content drink .... which was a fairly huge blot on the landscape when it was first painted, but now has faded much like the sign shown here about the retarded children, making the area just around the corner from me look abandoned and desolate.
I truly believe we should start a movement to ban the colour red on signs, fire trucks, maybe even lipstick, and promote bright blues and yellow ... after all, there is nothing more attractive than a yellow lipped woman.
The pictured sign, all faded and sad looking, actually refers to perambulatory less motivated young goats, albeit those that have no shoulders, and dead ends (can't remember what that is called in butchery terms).
It would be interesting to find out where/when the term kid became applicable to the young of a different species

Are we to caution these unfortunate shoulder-less slow kids? Seems pointless. Even the sign says it's a dead end.
