Dem senators, repeat after me:— Christian Finnegan (@ChristFinnegan) June 27, 2018
“The President of the United States is under investigation for collusion with a foreign adversary and obstruction of justice. There can be no SCOTUS replacement until he’s been cleared.”
Reality is
ReplyDelete1. Even if the investigation results in charges against Mr Trump, it would require an impeachment by Congress and the Senate to prosecute him. As long as the Republicans control both houses, I don't believe that will happen.
2. There is nothing in the Constitution to support this position. He will nominate someone and the Senate will confirm that someone before the mid-term elections.
Yeah, but it appears to be a conflict of interest that the top candidate, Brett Kavanaugh, published an opinion that sitting presidents cannot be indicted, and shouldn't be subpoenaed. If the president is impeached, it will behoove him to have personal allies on the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh is Kennedy's clerk.
ReplyDeleteAlso, kind of strange that Justice Anthony Kennedy's son helped arrange over a billion in loans to Trump from Russia through Deutsche Bank. http://www.businessinsider.com/anthony-kennedy-son-loaned-president-trump-over-a-billion-dollars-2018-6
