Accident

  1. I have had nail guns for over 50 years, from the solid American air driven 10kg Duofasts to the modern light weight gas powered Paslodes.
None of them will fire unless the trigger is pulled WHILE the working head is depressed.
All us real blokes remember watching the James Bond movie where he was chasing some baddies down the stone steps under some building in Venice, and he was shooting his Paslode nailer like a hand gun ... IT JUST DOESN'T DO THAT UNLESS YOU PUSH IT AGAINST THE WORK SURFACE ... we collectively yelled at the screen, before we got up, en mass, and walked out, only stopping to demand our money back from the ticket seller.
The guy with the nail in his heart was probably trying to commit suicide, was a complete moron, or his partner had had enough of him.
Also, the nail was under 4 inches long, his exaggeration saying it was 8 miles in was really over the top.
If he had used metric it would have been more believable.

    1. Nail guns can absolutely fire accidentally, it depends upon the type of trigger mechanism used. You're referring to one with a sequential trigger which lowers the risk. The other type is a contact trip trigger. Nail guns are responsible for approximately 37,000 emergency room visits each year, with a significant portion of these injuries resulting from accidental firings. Most injuries affect the hands and fingers, but they can also occur in other body parts.

  2. I think "eight miles in" refers to the distance Bergeson was from the emergency room, not the length of the nail in his heart. However, I agree that he sounds like a moron -- some people should never be allowed near power tools, LOL!

  5. This is bogus.  I'm from Wisconsin, lived here for over 70 years, and a true 'Sconnie would have definitely stopped off for a shot and a beer along the way.
