The total solar eclipse that will cross the U.S. on August 21st
is a big deal. "Eclipse" is not so rare, but "solar" is, and "total"
even more so. It doesn't happen often, and the view is expected to be
spectacular. Get a preview in this video from Vox. Sadly, my plan to drive two hours or so to see the eclipse has been
canceled. August 21st is move-in day at my youngest kid's new college.
But we will see a partial solar eclipse,
which will cover all of the lower 48. And if you live too far away to
get to the path of totality, you'll still see plenty of reports on the
