Why Bother With Marriage?

The School of Life takes a deep look at the reasons we get married. A really deep look. Way deeper than what most people even think of when they do it. What we think when we get married is that we are building a permanent family with a person of our own choosing (even if that family never includes children). Whether it works in the long run depends on a lot of things, not least of which is our own capacity for unselfishness. The rewards are so great that we keep the institution even when it is stripped of religion and pressure from the clan. Even when people get divorced, they tend to respect marriage itself, just not this particular pairing.
